Caring for Dementia
Dementia can come in all sorts of forms and not all care homes are set up to cater for the complexities that come with dementia. Below is a more detailed explanation of how we made our home so effective for caring for people with dementia and why we are recognised as a leading home for dementia.

Our Staff
Our staff are highly trained to understand how Dementia affects people. We have refresher training every year to stay up to date with the latest research and strategies. We also offer training for our resident’s family members, so you can also be better educated.
Specialist Dementia Events/Talks
We are connected to many networks that strive to better understand Dementia. We have dedicated staff that attend events and education talks to broaden our knowledge. We are also regularly invited to speak at events and share our achievements within the care home.
More staff on each shift
Because our residents have more complex needs, we have higher numbers of staff on each shift then in a regular residential home. We do this to ensure our residents are safe and cared for at the level they need.
Dementia friendly environment
Our activities, home routines and even the building itself is designed for residents living with Dementia. Living with Dementia can unsettle many residents so we do everything we can to help them feel safe, calm and secure. One example of this, is our Reminiscence Wall, which features photographs of famous faces from an era our residents would find familiar. Such as Elvis and Marylin Monroe. This helps our residents to remember past times when they were younger.
Catering for dementia diets
All residents as they get older can start to have additional needs when it comes to healthy eating and drinking. Dementia can add another layer of complexity to this. Our chefs are trained to cater to varied dietary needs and our carers are trained in strategies to help with keeping residents hydrated and fed.
Sensory Room & Torveltravel Sensory Table
Dementia can often result in cognitive and sensory impairments, making it challenging for residents to engage in activities and connect with their surroundings. We have invested in additional resources to help residents. Our sensory table offer a plethora of sensory experiences that can bring joy, comfort, and connection to those affected by dementia.
